2021 Local Government Elections

The number of seats in the Ngwathe Local Municipality reduced to 37 seats in the 2016 Local Government elections. There were  55,781 valied votes in the local municipality for the 2021 local government elections. The highest voter turn-out was achieved in Ward 15 with 78.28 %. The lowest voter turn-out in the municipality was in Ward 10 with 42.88 %.

Following the 2021 local government elections, the African National Congress was returned as the majority party with 21 seats. The Democratic Alliance holds 07 seats whilst the Economic Freedom Fighters holds 05 seats, the Freedom Front Plus holds 03 seat in the Council and Ngwathera holds 01 seat.
